Many of us struggle with trimming down our “trouble areas.” If you have a bit of a double chin, muffin top, saddle bags, or other pockets of stubborn body fat, body contouring can help. Liposuction and other related procedures can create leaner, slimmer body contours to help you feel completely confident in your own skin.
What are my Liposuction options?
Liposuction is a fat reduction surgery that can suction away fat from virtually any area of the body. After making a minor incision in the target area, Dr. Aycock will insert a thin, hollow tube beneath the skin and use suction technology to extract the fat cells. These fat cells are permanently removed from the body, resulting in a slimmer contour for the treated area. This surgery is an excellent way to spot reduce and trim down those areas of the body that are resistant to diet and exercise.
Liposuction and BodyTite™
For some candidates, a minimally invasive procedure known as BodyTite™ may be appropriate for body contouring. Used in combination with liposuction, BodyTite™ can further reduce unwanted fat as well as tighten loose skin to help create even smoother body contours. People who have a small amount of excess skin in addition to fat can benefit greatly from combining BodyTite™ with liposuction. BodyTite can be performed in the office under local anesthesia which decreases cost and recovery time.
Liposuction and Tummy Tuck Surgery
If your primary treatment area is your abdomen, you may want to consider combining your liposuction procedure with a tummy tuck. These two procedures are often combined to create a leaner and shapelier abdomen. A tummy tuck corrects separated abdominal muscles and sagging skin, which are especially common after pregnancy or weight loss. Since liposuction corrects excess fat, combining these two procedures provides the most powerful results to slim down your waistline.
Frequently Asked Questions
What areas of the body can liposuction treat?
Liposuction can be used to remove fat from virtually any area of the body. Most often, it is used to reduce fat in areas such as the abdomen, hips, back, inner and outer thighs, upper arms, and under the chin.
Am I a good candidate for liposuction?
Most individuals who do not smoke, have good physical health, and have a stable body weight may be good candidates for liposuction. Liposuction may be appropriate for men or women who are interested in improving their body contours by removing stubborn fat. If you also have loose skin and weak or separated abdominal muscles, you may be a good candidate for liposuction combined with BodyTite™ or tummy tuck surgery.
How much scarring should I expect?
As with any surgery, liposuction will leave surgical scars. However, these scars will be minor as the incisions are quite small- typically less than one centimeter. Dr. Aycock will make every effort to ensure that any scarring will be minimal and inconspicuous. For most patients, surgical scars fade significantly over time.
How long is liposuction recovery?
Most people plan to take one week off from work to recover from liposuction. Depending on the size of your treatment area, you may feel up to returning to work as early as a few days after the procedure. You will need to avoid strenuous activity for several weeks after liposuction. Any swelling or bruising should subside within a few weeks. Dr. Aycock will be there to monitor your recovery and advise you on when to return to work and exercise.
What are the risks of liposuction?
Every surgery has the risk of complications. Risks associated with liposuction include adverse reactions to anesthesia, infection, swelling, bleeding, numbness, skin discoloration, scarring, pain, and dissatisfaction with results. These risks are significantly lower when liposuction is performed by a board-certified plastic surgeon. Dr. Aycock will discuss the risks and benefits of liposuction with you to help you determine whether this procedure or another fat removal procedure like BodyTite™ or tummy tuck may be right for you.
How long do the results last?
Since liposuction permanently extracts fat cells from the body, the results are usually long lasting. The best way to maintain your results is to avoid weight gain and live a healthy lifestyle with a balanced diet and regular exercise.
