Top Surgery - Gender Affirmation

“Top surgery” is the common name for chest surgery that is performed to align a patient’s appearance with their gender identity. If you need top surgery, know that our practice is a safe space for you. Dr. Joyce Aycock hopes to empower men and women by helping them feel completely confident in their own skin. Whether you are transmale or transfemale, Dr. Aycock can surgically alter your chest to better match your gender identity.

Top Surgery Methods

If you are transmale, Dr. Aycock can perform a double mastectomy to masculinize your chest contour. If you are transfemale, Dr. Aycock can perform breast augmentation with implants or fat grafting to feminize your chest contour.

Top surgery to create a more masculine chest appearance typically involves double mastectomies to remove both breasts. This is performed through an incision that is either aligned with the bottom edge of the pectoralis muscle (“double incision”) or around the areola (“keyhole”). Free nipple grafting or contouring with liposuction may be added to improve the results.

Top surgery to create a more feminine chest appearance typically involves breast augmentation to create the appearance of female breasts. Implants or fat grafting can be used to fashion round, full breasts for transfemale patients.
